A handmade gift tag is the easiest way to make even a store-bought present feel special.
Tags are also one of the quickest things you can make with a Cricut. A sheet of cardstock gives you a dozen of them, and you can write each name with a Cricut pen while the machine cuts.

I rounded up 12 Cricut gift tag ideas I’d use this year: Christmas tags in every style, plus tags for birthdays, weddings and the handmade gifts you give all year. Each one comes with the SVG file.
Tip: Printing names or photos on tags with Print Then Cut? Our free SVG to PNG Converter turns any SVG into a high-resolution PNG at the exact size you need.
How to Make Gift Tags with a Cricut
Gift tags are a great first Cricut project. Here’s the method I use:
- Use 65 to 80 lb cardstock. Thinner paper tears when you thread the ribbon through.
- Size the tags to about 2 by 3.5 inches. That’s big enough for a name and small enough to fit a gift bag.
- Add the names with a Cricut pen or marker, so the machine writes them before it cuts.
- Layer a second color behind any cutout tags, and add a ribbon or a piece of baker’s twine through the hole.
Cut a whole sheet at once. You’ll use the extras for birthdays and thank-you gifts later.
12 Cricut Gift Tag Ideas
Here are my favorite Cricut gift tag ideas, starting with Christmas and ending with tags for every other occasion.
1. Kraft Christmas Gift Tag Bundle
Most Popular Cricut Gift Tag Idea

This bundle has 30 kraft paper tags with little cutout designs at the bottom: trees, reindeer, presents, snowflakes and more. It has over a thousand favorites, the most of any design in this roundup.
Cut them from kraft cardstock and back them with red or white paper so the cutouts pop. With 30 designs, every gift under the tree can have its own tag.
2. Layered Christmas Tags
Best Layered Tags

These 12 tags are built from two layers in red, green and white, with trees, presents, a reindeer and a snowflake.
Glue the top layer onto a contrasting base for a crisp, store-bought look. They also work as Print Then Cut tags if you’d rather skip the gluing.
3. Faded Christmas Tags
Best Print Then Cut Tags

These tags have a soft, faded color palette with “fa la la” and “ho ho” lettering, a snowman and a reindeer. They’re perfect if you like a muted, modern Christmas look.
Print them on matte cardstock and use Print Then Cut so the edges line up perfectly.
4. Something from Santa Tag
Best Tag for Kids’ Gifts

Every family needs a set of “Something from Santa” tags, so the kids never spot your handwriting. This one mixes a swirly script with bold block letters.
Use a Cricut pen to draw it on plain tags, or cut it in vinyl for a reusable Santa gift box.
5. Reindeer Gift Tag
Cutest Christmas Tag

A reindeer with a bright red nose peeks over the top of this tag, with space below for the to and from names.
The file is made for laser cutting, but the simple shapes cut nicely from cardstock too. Use brown and tan for the reindeer and add a tiny bow under its chin.
6. Christmas Tree Shaped Tags
Best Shaped Tags

These tags are shaped like four different Christmas trees, each with its own cutout pattern.
Green glitter cardstock makes them sparkle, and they double as ornaments once the gifts are open.
7. Paper-Cut Snowflake Tag
Best Simple Tag

Sometimes simple is best. This scalloped tag has one little snowflake cut out of the corner, so it’s quick to cut and easy to write on.
Layer it over a darker color so the snowflake shows, and make a big batch in one cut.
8. 3D Flower Gift Tag
Best Non-Christmas Tag

A white paper daisy sits on the front of this tag, and it looks so pretty on Mother’s Day, birthday and spring gifts.
Cut the flower petals separately, curl them a little with a pencil and glue a gem in the middle.
9. Birthday Gift Tags
Best Birthday Tags

This set has a birthday cake, a gift box and a bow on simple rectangle tags. They’re cute for kids and grown-ups alike.
Cut a bundle in bright colors and keep them with your wrapping paper, so you’re ready for every party.
10. Wedding Favor Tags
Best Wedding Tags

This bundle has 77 tag shapes, from simple rectangles to scalloped ovals with bows on top.
Pick one shape for all your wedding or shower favors, and add the couple’s names and date with a Cricut pen in a pretty script.
11. Made with Love Labels
Best for Handmade Gifts

“Made with love” with a little heart is perfect for cookies, candles, soap and anything you make yourself.
Cut it as a round tag, or turn it into stickers with Print Then Cut for baked goods and small-shop packaging.
12. Sunflower Printable Gift Tags
My Free Printable Tags

These watercolor sunflower tags are my own design, and they’re free on the blog. Some have sunny quotes, and some are blank for your own message.
Upload the PNG to Design Space and use Print Then Cut. They’re bright and happy for teacher gifts, birthdays and summer thank-yous.
Cricut Gift Tag FAQs
What cardstock is best for Cricut gift tags?
A 65 to 80 lb cardstock is the sweet spot. It’s sturdy enough for ribbon and still cuts cleanly on the standard blade.
Can my Cricut write on gift tags?
Yes. Change the text to a writing style in Design Space and load a Cricut pen. The machine writes first, then cuts the tag.
What size should a gift tag be?
Most gift tags are 2 to 2.5 inches wide and 3 to 4 inches tall. Go smaller for gift card holders and favors, and bigger if you want a long message.
How do I make tags with Print Then Cut?
Upload the design as a PNG, choose Print Then Cut, and print it on white cardstock. Your Cricut reads the black border and cuts around each tag.
