How a wedding color palette works

Each palette has five roles, so it’s easy to use across everything from invitations to table settings:

  • Main: your signature color, used for bridesmaid dresses, flowers and the biggest pops.
  • Second: a supporting color for alternating dresses, ribbons and linens.
  • Accent: a small touch for boutonnieres, stationery details and favors.
  • Light: a soft neutral for invitations, tablecloths and the cake.
  • Dark: a grounding shade for text, suits and signage, so everything stays readable.

A metallic accent (gold, rose gold or silver) ties it together on cutlery, frames, foil invitations and the cake stand. A good rule of thumb is to use the main color for about 60% of your color moments, the second color for 30% and the accent for 10%.

Wedding color ideas by season

  • Spring: blush, sage, lavender, butter yellow and soft peach with ivory.
  • Summer: dusty blue, coral, seafoam, sunny marigold and crisp white.
  • Fall: terracotta, burnt orange, burgundy, mustard and olive with cream.
  • Winter: emerald, navy, deep plum, silver and wine with a touch of gold.

Using your palette with a Cricut

Your palette card lists HEX codes, so you can match colors on screen in Cricut Design Space for Print Then Cut projects such as stickers, favor tags and place cards. For vinyl and cardstock, hold the card up to the material in natural light and choose the closest shade. Screen and printed colors always vary a little, so test a small piece first.

Make matching designs in your colors with our Wedding Monogram Maker and Curved Text Generator, or try lettering styles in the Cricut Font Previewer.

Frequently asked questions

Is the wedding color palette generator free?

Yes. It’s completely free, with no sign-up and no email needed to download your palette card.

Can I create a palette from a photo?

Yes. Upload any photo, such as your venue, a dress swatch or an inspiration picture, and the generator finds its five main colors. The photo is read on your device and never uploaded anywhere.

How many colors should a wedding palette have?

Most weddings look best with three main colors plus one or two neutrals, which is why each palette here has five colors and an optional metallic.

What are HEX, RGB and CMYK codes?

HEX and RGB describe colors on screens, which is useful for websites, Canva and Cricut Design Space. CMYK is used for printing invitations and signs. The CMYK values on the card are close conversions, so always ask your printer for a proof.

Can I change a color I don’t like?

Yes. Open a palette, tap the small circle on any color to pick a new shade, lock the colors you want to keep and shuffle the rest.
