How to make your monogram
- Type your first, middle and last name. Just a first name or last name works too.
- With all three names, choose Traditional order (last initial larger in the middle) or Name order (all three letters the same size).
- Browse all 18 styles at once, or filter by Classic, Script, Circle, Single letter, Split letter or Name.
- Tap a design to change the font, frame and color. Set the size, or tap a project such as Tumbler, Shirt front or Door sign.
- Download the SVG cut file for Cricut or Silhouette, or the PNG for printing and sublimation.
Your name and settings stay on this device, so you can come back and pick up where you left off.
Monogram letter order: which initial goes where?
Getting the order wrong is the most common monogram mistake. The maker puts the letters in the right place for you, but here are the rules if you’re designing by hand.
- Traditional three-letter monogram: first initial on the left, last name initial larger in the middle, middle initial on the right. Olivia Grace Bennett becomes O B G.
- Same-size letters in name order: when all three letters are the same size, they follow your name, so Olivia Grace Bennett is OGB. This is popular for men’s monograms, luggage and modern designs.
- Two letters: first and last initial, in that order, such as OB.
- Single initial: traditionally your last name initial, which suits family and home decor. Many people use their first initial on personal items instead.
- Married names: many women who change their name use first name, maiden name as the middle initial, and new last name. Type it that way and the maker puts the new last name in the middle.
- Couples: monograms for two people follow different rules. Use our Wedding Monogram Maker for couple and wedding monograms.
What size should a monogram be?
These are common finished widths. The project buttons in the maker set them for you, and it warns you if a detailed design is too small to weed cleanly.
| Project | Typical width |
|---|---|
| Tumbler or wine glass | 2.5–3 in |
| Mug | 3 in |
| Shirt, left chest | 3–4 in |
| Car decal | 4–5 in |
| Tote bag | 8–10 in |
| Shirt front | 9–11 in |
| Pillow or door sign | 10–14 in |
How to cut your monogram with a Cricut
- In Cricut Design Space, click Upload, then Upload Image, and choose the SVG you downloaded.
- Add it to your canvas. It’s already welded into one shape, so you don’t need to weld letters or attach the frame.
- It opens at the width you picked in the maker, so it’s ready to cut. You can still resize it in Design Space without losing quality.
- For iron-on vinyl (HTV), turn on Mirror before cutting. Adhesive vinyl doesn’t need mirroring.
- Do a small test cut first, then weed slowly around script letters and thin frames.
Each design shows a cutting level. Easy weed designs have thick, simple shapes. Medium weed designs have some small gaps. Fine detail designs have thin script strokes, so cut them larger. Silhouette users can open the SVG in Silhouette Studio Designer Edition or higher.

Frequently asked questions
Is the monogram maker really free?
Yes. Every design downloads free as an SVG and PNG, with no sign-up, no watermark and no Cricut Access subscription needed.
Can I sell crafts made with my monogram?
Yes. Every font is released under the SIL Open Font License, which allows commercial use, so you can sell shirts, tumblers, signs and other physical items made with your designs.
What is the correct order for a three-letter monogram?
For one person, the traditional order is first initial, last initial (larger, in the middle), then middle initial. If all three letters are the same size, use the order of your name instead.
Do I need to weld the letters in Design Space?
No. The maker joins overlapping letters, frames and wreaths into one clean shape before you download, so the design cuts exactly as it looks on screen.
Can I make a monogram with just one or two letters?
Yes. With one name you get single-letter, split-letter and name designs. With two names, the classic, circle and script designs show two initials.
Does it work with Silhouette and other cutting machines?
Yes. The SVG works with Silhouette Studio Designer Edition and higher, Brother ScanNCut, Glowforge and most cutting and laser software. Use the PNG for printing.
