How to convert SVG to PNG
- Drop your SVG files into the box, choose them from your device, or paste SVG code. You can add up to 50 at once.
- Pick PNG (keeps a transparent background) or JPG (smaller, with a solid background).
- Set the size. Choose Print size to enter the width in inches or centimeters plus a DPI, or Pixels for screens and websites. The height follows the shape of your design.
- Optional: trim the empty space around the design, add a background color, or make the whole design one color.
- Click Download PNG, or Download all as ZIP for several files.
Everything happens in your browser. Your files are never uploaded, so the converter works for private and paid designs too.
What size PNG do I need for printing?
Printed images need enough pixels for their size. The rule is simple: pixels = inches × DPI. 300 DPI is the standard for sharp prints, stickers and sublimation; 150 DPI is fine for large items viewed from a distance.
| Print width | At 150 DPI | At 300 DPI |
|---|---|---|
| 2 in (5 cm) sticker | 300 px | 600 px |
| 4 in (10 cm) decal or mug | 600 px | 1,200 px |
| 6.75 in (17 cm) Print Then Cut | 1,013 px | 2,025 px |
| 10 in (25 cm) shirt design | 1,500 px | 3,000 px |
| 12 in (30 cm) pillow or sign | 1,800 px | 3,600 px |
Because an SVG is made of shapes rather than pixels, converting it at the size you need gives a perfectly sharp PNG. Enlarging a small PNG later always makes it blurry, so it’s better to convert again at the bigger size.
The converter also saves the DPI inside the PNG or JPG file, so apps that read it (such as Photoshop, GIMP and Affinity) open it at the right print size.
SVG to PNG for Cricut Print Then Cut
Print Then Cut works with flat images, so a PNG is often easier than a layered SVG for stickers, tags and labels. Choose Fit Print Then Cut to make the design as large as fits in 6.75 × 9.25 inches, Cricut’s Print Then Cut size on Letter paper, at 300 DPI. Turn on Trim empty space so the image is only as big as the design.
After uploading to Design Space, check the size on the canvas and type in the width you want if it’s different. Keep the transparent background so the cut line follows your design rather than a box.
SVG vs PNG: which should I use?
- SVG is a vector file: it stays sharp at any size and keeps separate shapes and layers, which is what you want for cutting vinyl, iron-on and cardstock.
- PNG is a pixel image with a transparent background. Use it for Print Then Cut, sublimation, mockups, social media, Etsy listing photos and anywhere SVG isn’t accepted.
- JPG is smaller but can’t be transparent. It’s best for photos and for places that only accept JPG.
Frequently asked questions
Is this SVG to PNG converter free?
Yes. It’s free with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it.
Will my PNG have a transparent background?
Yes, PNG keeps the background transparent unless you pick White or a color. JPG files can’t be transparent, so they always get a background.
Why does the text in my PNG look different?
If your SVG still has live text, it needs the same font installed on your device. When it isn’t, your browser swaps in a similar font. To fix it, convert the text to outlines or paths in your design app before exporting the SVG.
How do I make a white version for dark shirts?
Choose Design color: One color and pick white. Every part of the design turns white while the background stays transparent, ready for sublimation or DTF on dark fabric. The preview switches to a dark background so you can see it.
Can I convert SVG to PNG on my phone?
Yes. It works on iPhone, iPad and Android. Phones can’t make extremely large images, so if you see a size warning, lower the DPI or width.
Can I sell the PNG files I make?
Converting a file doesn’t change who owns it. If the SVG is your own design, the PNG is yours too. For SVGs you bought or downloaded, follow that design’s license.
