11 Free Printable Care Cards for Small Business (Shirts, Tumblers, Candles & More)

Published on

Every order you ship is a chance to make someone smile. It’s also your best chance to stop a “my shirt is peeling!” message before it ever lands in your inbox.

A little care card does both. It says thank you, and it tells your customer exactly how to look after what they bought.

I made 11 free printable care cards for the things small shops sell most: iron-on and sublimation shirts, tumblers, mugs, candles, jewelry, crochet, treats and plants. Each one is a ready-to-print PDF with thank-you fronts on page 1 and the care steps on page 2.

Tip: Want your logo, shop name or a QR code on the cards? Open any of these designs in my free Care Card Maker, change the colors and wording, and download your own print sheet.

What to Put on a Care Card

A good care card is short and friendly. Your customer should be able to read it in ten seconds. Here’s what to include:

  • A thank you. Small shops grow on repeat customers, and a handwritten-feeling “Thank you!” goes a long way.
  • Four to eight care steps. Put the one that matters most first, like the wait before the first wash or “never microwave”.
  • Your brand. Your logo or shop name, plus your website or Instagram handle.
  • A next step. A QR code that links to your review page or shop makes it easy to leave a review or order again.

These cards come with the care steps already filled in. The wording follows the guidance from the material makers (Cricut, Siser, ArtResin and Libbey) and from safety groups like the National Candle Association and FoodSafety.gov. Still, always check the care label on your blanks and adjust the steps to match what you use.

How to Print Your Care Cards

  1. Download the PDF of the card you want. Page 1 has the fronts and page 2 has the backs.
  2. Print page 1 on cardstock at 100% / Actual size, not “Fit to page”. The 2 in line at the bottom of the page should measure exactly 2 inches.
  3. Put the sheet back in your printer and print page 2 on the other side. Flip on the long edge. The backs are already lined up with the fronts.
  4. Cut along the crop marks with a paper trimmer, or with a craft knife and a ruler. A corner rounder gives the cards a polished finish.

Smooth, bright white cardstock between 65 and 110 lb (about 175 to 300 gsm) works well. Heavier card feels more premium, so check how thick a card your printer can take first.

Not sure your printer lines up both sides? Print one test sheet on plain paper and hold it up to a window. If the backs are a little off, the cards still look fine once they’re cut, because each side has its own border.

11 Free Printable Care Cards

Here are all 11 cards, starting with shirts, then cups and mugs, then candles, jewelry, crochet, treats and plants. Click the button under each card to download its PDF.

1. HTV Shirt Care Card

Best for Cricut Shirts

Free printable HTV Shirt Care Card (front and back)

Soft blush icons and a clean layout, with the steps iron-on vinyl really needs: wait 24 hours, wash inside out in cold water, and skip the fabric softener and the iron.

There are 10 cards on a page. Tuck one into every shirt order and you’ll get far fewer “my design is peeling” messages.

2. Sublimation Shirt Care Card

Best Black and White Card

Free printable Sublimation Shirt Care Card (front and back)

A crisp black and white card for sublimation shirts: wash inside out in cold water, no bleach or fabric softener, wash with similar colors, and iron low, inside out, never on the print.

It’s mostly white, so it prints sharp on any home printer and barely touches your colored ink.

3. DTF Shirt Care Card

Best for DTF Transfers

A bold blue banner makes this one stand out in the bag. The back covers DTF care: wait 24 hours, wash inside out in cold water, tumble dry low and never iron on the print.

The big “Thank you!” front is easy to read from across the room, so it’s great for craft fair orders too.

4. Tumbler Care Card

Best for Tumbler Shops

Free printable Tumbler Care Card (front and back)

Black and gold with a double frame, so it looks as good as your tumblers. It covers stainless steel sublimation tumblers: hand wash, not dishwasher safe, never microwave, no abrasive scrubbers and don’t freeze.

The “never microwave (it’s metal)” line is the one customers forget most, so it sits near the top.

5. Vinyl Decal Cup Care Card

Best for Vinyl Cups

Free printable Vinyl Decal Cup Care Card (front and back)

Made for cups with permanent vinyl decals. Vinyl needs time to cure, so the first line asks customers to wait 72 hours before washing. Then it’s hand wash only, no dishwasher, no microwave and no soaking.

The last line asks people to pat the decal dry instead of scrubbing it, which keeps the edges from lifting.

6. Sublimation Mug Care Card

Best for Mugs

Free printable Sublimation Mug Care Card (front and back)

A warm terracotta card with a script “Mug Care” title. It gives honest mug care: hand wash to keep the colors bright, the top rack of the dishwasher if needed, and short bursts in the microwave.

It also warns against microwaving a mug with a metallic rim. If your mugs are hand wash only, you can change that line in the maker.

7. Candle Care Card

Best Candle Card

Free printable Candle Care Card (front and back)

A 3 x 3 inch square kraft card that looks lovely tied to a jar candle. The back has the candle safety basics: never leave it unattended, trim the wick to 1/4 inch, burn it on a heat-resistant surface and keep it 12 inches from anything that can catch fire.

It also explains the first burn (melt to the edges, about 1 hour per inch of width). That one step helps prevent tunneling. You get 6 cards per page.

8. Jewelry Care Hang Tag

Best Hang Tag

Free printable Jewelry Care Hang Tag (front and back)

A 2 x 3.5 inch lavender hang tag with a pretty arch. The back has four simple steps: take it off before showering or swimming, put it on after lotion and perfume, wipe it with a soft cloth and store it dry in a separate pouch.

Punch out the marked circle with a small hole punch and add a ribbon or string. There are 8 tags on a page.

9. Crochet Care Card

Best for Crochet and Knits

Free printable Crochet Care Card (front and back)

A calm sage card with a thin frame. It asks customers to follow the yarn label, hand wash cool, never wring or twist, and reshape and dry flat.

There’s also a line for crochet toys: check that the eyes and small parts stay secure. That matters for anything made for little ones.

Best for Bakers

Free printable treat care card in terracotta for cakes and cookies with storage tips
Free printable Cake and Cookie Care Card (front and back)

For cakes, cupcakes and cookies. It tells customers to refrigerate cream cheese and whipped fillings, keep perishable treats out for no more than 2 hours, and store cookies airtight at room temperature.

It says “best enjoyed within 3 days”. If your bakes keep longer, change the days in the Care Card Maker before you print.

11. Plant Care Card

Best for Plant Shops

Free printable Plant Care Card (front and back)

A fresh sage card with soft leaf-like shapes. It covers watering when the top inch of soil is dry, bright indirect light, drainage holes and not letting the pot sit in water.

It also reminds customers that some plants are toxic to pets, which is a kind touch for cat and dog owners.

Care Card FAQs

What is a care card?

A care card is a small card you tuck into an order. It tells your customer how to look after what they bought, like how to wash a shirt or clean a tumbler.

It cuts down on complaints, and it’s a lovely place to say thank you.

What size is a care card?

Most small shops use business card size, 3.5 x 2 inches, because it fits in any package and prints 10 to a page. Square 3 x 3 inch cards and 2 x 3.5 inch hang tags are popular for candles and jewelry.

What paper should I print care cards on?

Smooth white cardstock between 65 and 110 lb works best. For a natural look, kraft cardstock works too, but dark kraft can make small text harder to read.

Can I use these care cards for my business?

Yes. Print as many as you like for your own orders. Please don’t resell or share the PDF files themselves. Link to this post instead.

Do I need a Cricut to make care cards?

No. A home printer and a paper trimmer are all you need. If you have a Cricut, you can also make a Print Then Cut version of any card in the Care Card Maker.
