Wood signs are where a lot of us fall in love with our Cricut. A plain board, some paint and a vinyl stencil turn into something that looks straight out of a farmhouse shop.
They make lovely gifts too, because almost any sign can be personalized with a name.

I rounded up 20 Cricut sign ideas for every room, the front porch and every season. Five of them are my own free porch sign designs, and each one comes with the SVG file.

The Best Materials for Cricut Signs
You can make a sign out of almost anything flat. These are the combinations I reach for most:
- Wood plank or wood round with a stencil: cut the design from stencil vinyl, stick it on and paint over it for crisp, painted-on letters.
- Wood with permanent vinyl: quicker than painting, and perfect for indoor signs.
- Layered cardstock or chipboard: great for detailed multi-layer signs that were designed for a laser.
- Acrylic blanks: modern and clean for wedding welcome signs and name plaques.
For porch signs, seal the wood with an outdoor polyurethane so the paint lasts through the weather.
How to Paint a Wood Sign with a Vinyl Stencil
Sand the board, paint the background color and let it dry completely. Cut your design from stencil vinyl, weed out the letters and use transfer tape to place the stencil.
Burnish the edges well, then paint with a dabbing motion so the paint doesn’t creep under the vinyl. Peel the stencil off while the paint is still a little wet for the cleanest lines.
20 Cricut Sign Ideas
Here are my favorite Cricut sign ideas, starting with personalized signs and finishing with my free porch signs for every season.
1. Personalized Craft Room Sign
Most Popular Sign

“Welcome to Caroline’s craft room” circles a big name, with craft tools tucked behind the letters. With over 130 favorites, it’s the most popular sign in this list.
Every crafter deserves a sign on the craft room door. Swap in your own name and cut it in chipboard, or as a stencil for a wood round.
2. Mr and Mrs Established Sign
Best Wedding Sign

“Mr & Mrs” in flowing script sits above the last name, the year and a pretty floral wreath.
It’s a beautiful wedding or anniversary gift. Cut it in black vinyl for a white frame, or in white for a dark wood board.
3. Round Family Name Sign
Best Family Name Sign

A simple leafy wreath frames “the Miller family,” with room for the year the family began.
Round signs are easy to hang on a front door or lean on a mantel. Make one for every new home in your family.
4. Family Name Welcome Porch Sign
Best Free Porch Sign

This is one of my free welcome porch signs. A monogram letter sits in a laurel wreath at the top, “WELCOME” runs down the board and the family name finishes it off.
I like white letters on a dark stained plank. A 4 or 5 foot board looks best next to a front door.
5. Round Welcome Sign with a Bow
Best Door Hanger

“WELCOME” has a little heart in place of the O, which makes it perfect for February.
Add a fabric bow and a sprig of greenery at the top. Swap the bow with the seasons and it works all year.
6. Home Sweet Home Round
Best Housewarming Gift

“Home sweet home” in a pretty script with tiny hearts is a classic for a reason.
Paint it on a natural wood round and give it to friends who just moved in. It also looks lovely in a tiered tray.
7. Puppy Welcome Sign
Best Pet Sign

A cute puppy peeks over a “Welcome” banner, with a paw print in the O and little bones below.
It’s made for a laser, but the layers cut well in cardstock or chipboard. Hang it by the front door to let guests know there’s a dog at home.
8. Garden Welcome Sign with a Gnome
Best Garden Sign

An arched sign says “Welcome,” with a little gnome hiding among the wildflowers below.
Paint it in dark brown on a natural wood arch and seal it well for outdoors. It’s sweet on a garden gate or a potting shed.

Best Coffee Bar Sign

“Coffee bar” in a bold script with a little banner is perfect for the corner where your coffee maker lives. The file also includes quotes like “gather, eat, laugh” and “holy crepe!”
Cut it in black vinyl for a white framed sign. It’s an easy one to make in an afternoon.
10. Grandma’s Kitchen Sign
Best Kitchen Sign

“Grandma’s kitchen, where sweet things happen” comes with a mixing bowl, a spoon and a cupcake.
It’s a lovely Mother’s Day or Christmas gift from the grandkids. Change it to “Nana’s” or “Mimi’s” in Design Space.
11. Farm Fresh Eggs Sign

“Farm fresh eggs” in playful hand lettering is a must for a farmhouse kitchen.
Cut it in black vinyl on a whitewashed board. If you keep chickens, it’s just as cute on the coop.

13. Laundry Room Loads of Fun

“The laundry room, loads of fun” in a vintage oval brightens up the most-used room in the house.
Paint the oval dark brown and cut the letters as a stencil, or layer white cardstock letters on top.
14. Classroom Door Sign
Best Teacher Sign

“In this classroom you areโฆ” sits above a stack of books labeled kind, valued, loved, smart and more, with the teacher’s name at the bottom.
Make the books in bright layered cardstock or vinyl on a painted round. It’s a gift a teacher will hang on the classroom door all year.
15. Ocean Kids Name Sign
Best Kids’ Room Sign

16. Patriotic Flag Door Hanger

17. Hello Fall Porch Sign
Best Fall Porch Sign

“hello FALL” stacks down a white board with autumn leaves between the letters and pumpkins at the bottom. It’s one of my free fall porch signs.
Use mustard, rust and brown paint for the letters. Lean it by the door with a few real pumpkins.
18. Happy Halloween Porch Sign
Best Halloween Sign

“Happy HALLOWEEN” runs down the board with a little spider and grinning jack-o-lanterns at the bottom. This is one of my free Halloween porch signs.
Black letters and orange pumpkins on white make it bold enough to see from the street.
19. Let It Snow Porch Sign

“Let it SNOW” with snowflakes in the letters is one of my free Christmas porch signs.
Navy blue with white letters feels wintry without being too Christmassy, so it can stay out until spring.

Best Faith Sign

“FAITH over FEAR” in bold letters with a leafy sprig at the top and bottom is one of my free faith porch signs.
It’s simple enough to cut in one color, and it works on a porch, in an entryway or above a bed.
Cricut Sign FAQs
What vinyl is best for wood signs?
Use permanent vinyl for letters that stay on the sign, or stencil vinyl if you want to paint the design. Removable vinyl works for a sign you want to change with the seasons.
How big should a porch sign be?
Most vertical porch signs are 4 to 5 feet tall and about 10 to 12 inches wide. Design Space lets you cut long letters on a 12 x 24 inch mat or in sections.
How do I stop paint bleeding under a stencil?
Burnish the stencil well and dab the paint on instead of brushing. You can also seal the stencil edges with a thin coat of the background color first.
What kind of wood should I use?
Pine boards and pre-cut wood rounds from the craft store are cheap and easy to paint. Sand them smooth so the vinyl sticks well.
Can I sell signs made with these SVG files?
Check the license before you sell. Most Creative Fabrica files include a commercial license for physical products, and each of my free files has its terms on the download page.
