Socks are one of the most fun things to sublimate. They’re cheap, quick to press and make perfect stocking stuffers.
The cutest designs go on the bottom of the sock, so the message shows when someone puts their feet up.

I rounded up 12 sublimation sock ideas, starting with Christmas socks for the holiday season and finishing with funny everyday sayings and a handy sock template. Each one comes with the file.

How to Sublimate Socks
Here’s what you need and how it works:
- Polyester socks: white socks sold as sublimation socks work best. The more polyester, the brighter the print.
- A sock jig: a flat insert that stretches the sock and keeps the ink from bleeding through to the other side. A piece of cardboard covered in butcher paper works too.
- The right design size: most adult sock designs are around 3.5 x 7 inches, but measure your socks first.
- A heat press: press one sock at a time, with butcher paper on top.
Print your design mirrored, tape it to the bottom of the sock and follow the time and temperature from your sock seller.
Tips for Cute Sock Designs
Keep words big and simple, since socks are small and stretch a little when worn. Split a saying across both socks, like “If you can read this” on the left and “Bring me tea” on the right.
Make the left and right socks as a matching pair, and check which way the toes point before you tape the design on.

Sublimation Sock FAQs
What socks can you sublimate?
White polyester socks work best. Look for socks sold as sublimation socks, since they have a smooth, flat area on the sole for the design.
Do I need a sock jig?
It’s not a must, but it helps a lot. A jig stretches the sock flat and stops the ink from bleeding through to the other side.
What size should a sock design be?
Most adult sock designs are around 3.5 x 7 inches. Kids’ socks need a smaller design, so always measure your blanks first.
How do I wash sublimated socks?
Wash them inside out in cool water and skip the bleach. Sublimation ink is part of the fabric, so the design won’t peel or crack.
