A handmade mug is one of my favorite gifts. Everyone drinks coffee or tea, and they think of you every morning.

Vinyl or Infusible Ink: Which Is Best for Mugs?
There are two main ways to make a Cricut mug:
- Permanent vinyl: works on any ceramic mug. It’s quick and cheap, but you need to hand wash the mug.
- Infusible Ink with the Cricut Mug Press: the ink goes into the mug’s coating, so it won’t peel and it’s dishwasher safe. You need Infusible Ink-compatible (sublimation) mugs.
- Infusible Ink pens: your Cricut draws the design on laser copy paper, then you press it like a sheet.
- Sublimation: some full-color designs are made for a sublimation printer instead of a Cricut cut.
If you’re new to mugs, start with vinyl. If you make mugs often, the Mug Press is worth it.
How to Make a Mug with the Cricut Mug Press
Choose a wrap for your mug size (most are made for 11 oz or 15 oz mugs). Mirror the design in Design Space, cut it from an Infusible Ink sheet and weed it.
Wrap the design around a clean mug with heat-resistant tape, put it in the Mug Press and close the lever. When it beeps, let the mug cool before you peel off the sheet.

What vinyl is best for mugs?
Permanent adhesive vinyl, like Cricut Premium Permanent or Oracal 651. Removable vinyl will peel off when you wash the mug.
Are Cricut vinyl mugs dishwasher safe?
No. Vinyl mugs should be hand washed. Mugs made with Infusible Ink in the Cricut Mug Press are dishwasher safe.
What mugs work with the Cricut Mug Press?
Infusible Ink-compatible mugs, also called sublimation mugs, with straight sides. The Mug Press fits mugs from 11 oz to 16 oz.
Do I need to mirror the design?
Mirror it for Infusible Ink sheets and pens. Don’t mirror it for permanent vinyl.
How long should vinyl cure on a mug?
Wait about 72 hours before you wash it, so the adhesive can fully set.
