A handmade card says so much more than one from the store. And with a Cricut, you can make cards that pop up, shake and sparkle.
People keep these. I’ve seen them on fridges and bookshelves years later.

I rounded up 18 Cricut card ideas: shaker cards, pop-up cards and paper-cut cards for birthdays, Mother’s Day, thank-yous and Christmas. Each one comes with the cut file.

What You Need to Make Cards with a Cricut
Here’s what I use for cards:
- Cardstock: 65 to 80 lb cardstock for the card and layers. Use a sturdier 100 lb cardstock for the base of pop-up cards.
- Glue: a fine-tip liquid glue for small pieces, and foam dots or foam tape to lift layers.
- Scoring tool: a scoring stylus or scoring wheel for clean folds. It makes a big difference on pop-ups.
- For shaker cards: clear acetate for the window, foam tape for the walls and sequins or confetti for the filling.
- For Cricut Joy: Cricut Insert Cards and the Card Mat. Some files in this list include a Joy template.
Pens are great for cards too. Use them to write a message inside before you assemble the card.
Tips for Pop-Up and Shaker Cards
For pop-up cards, score every fold before you glue anything. Dry-fit the pieces first, then glue one side at a time and close the card while the glue dries, so everything lines up.
For shaker cards, use static-free sequins instead of fine glitter, since glitter sticks to the window. Build the foam walls all the way around, so nothing leaks out.

Cricut Card FAQs
What cardstock is best for Cricut cards?
Smooth 65 to 80 lb cardstock cuts cleanly and folds well. For pop-up bases or shaker cards, a heavier 100 lb cardstock holds its shape better.
Can I make these cards with a Cricut Joy?
Yes. Many card files fit the Cricut Joy, and some include a Joy template for Insert Cards. Bigger pop-up cards can be cut in pieces on a regular mat.
Can I mail pop-up and shaker cards?
Yes. Most pop-up cards fold flat. Shaker cards are thicker, so check the weight and use a padded envelope or extra postage if needed.
How do I write inside a card with a Cricut?
Pick a writing font in Design Space, set the text to Pen, and attach it to the card. Your Cricut will write the message with a pen before it cuts.
