A kitchen towel is one of my favorite things to make with a Cricut. Towels are cheap, they’re quick to make, and everyone uses one every day.
Add a funny saying and it’s an instant gift for a housewarming, a holiday host or a friend who loves to bake.

I rounded up 15 Cricut kitchen towel ideas: funny dish towel sayings, sweet ones for bakers, and towels for fall, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Valentine’s Day. Each one comes with the cut file.
Tip: Want to add a family name to the towel? Type it into our free Cricut Font Previewer to compare fonts side by side before you cut.
What You Need to Make Kitchen Towels with a Cricut
Here’s my supply list:
- Flour sack towels: plain white cotton flour sack or tea towels are smooth and flat, so vinyl sticks really well. Wash them once first, without fabric softener.
- Iron-on vinyl: Cricut Everyday Iron-On or Siser EasyWeed. Don’t use adhesive vinyl, since it peels off in the wash.
- Infusible Ink: it only works on polyester, so use the Infusible Ink-compatible tea towels.
- Heat press: a Cricut EasyPress or a home iron, plus a pressing mat or a folded towel underneath.
- Weeding tool: for picking out the tiny bits inside letters.
Waffle-weave towels work too, but the texture makes it harder for vinyl to grip. Pick bold, simple designs and press a little longer.
How to Put Iron-On Vinyl on a Kitchen Towel
Fold the towel in thirds the long way, like it would hang on the oven door, and press a crease. The middle panel is where your design goes. Most designs look best at about 6 to 8 inches wide.
Mirror the design, cut it with the shiny side down and weed it. Press the towel flat first to remove wrinkles and moisture, then press the vinyl with the settings from the Cricut Heat Guide. Wait 24 hours before the first wash.

Cricut Kitchen Towel FAQs
What kind of towel is best for Cricut vinyl?
Flour sack towels. They’re thin, smooth and 100% cotton, so iron-on vinyl sticks well and stays flat. Plain cotton tea towels work well too.
What size should a kitchen towel design be?
About 6 to 8 inches wide for a standard flour sack towel. Fold the towel in thirds first, and keep the design inside the middle panel.
Can I use permanent vinyl on a kitchen towel?
No. Adhesive vinyl, even permanent vinyl, peels off fabric in the wash. Use iron-on vinyl, or Infusible Ink on polyester towels.
How do I wash a vinyl kitchen towel?
Wait 24 hours after pressing. Wash in cool or warm water, skip bleach and fabric softener, and tumble dry on low or hang it to dry. Never iron directly on the vinyl.
Can I make towels to sell?
Yes, in most cases. Most Creative Fabrica files include a commercial license for physical products, so you can sell the towels you make. Check the license on each file before you sell.
